Abstract: The proposed algorithm uses CIELab color space, the fast edge detection calculate the color pixel distances in a window of image. Combined edge connection measures based on fast edge detection are studied. To get optimum segmentation, merging adjacent regions is performed after edge connection. The presented approach is evaluated on standard Berkeley Image Segmentation Database. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach does not result in over segmentation or under segmentation. The proposed algorithm is direct, simple, and computationally inexpensive.
