Advances in Respiratory Infections of Children

Respiratory tract infection refers to any of a number of infectious diseases involving the respiratory tract. An infection of this type is normally further classified as an upper respiratory tract infection (URI or URTI) or a lower respiratory tract infection (LRI or LRTI). Respiratory infections (ARI) are the leading cause of mortality in children under five years of age worldwide. Rapid viral testing in the emergency department for children with acute febrile respiratory infections does not reduce the rates of antibiotic use, blood testing, urine testing or length of hospital stay. However, the relative risk reduction of chest x-ray utilization in children screened with rapid viral testing is 77% compared with controls. Vaccination helps prevent bronchopneumonia, mostly against influenza viruses, adenoviruses, measles, rubella, streptococcus pneumoniae, haemophilus influenzae, diphtheria, bacillus anthracis, chickenpox, and bordetella pertussis.

In the present book, fifteen typical literatures about treatment of stroke published on international authoritative journals were selected to introduce the worldwide newest progress, which contains reviews or original researches on medical science, infectious diseases pediatric respiratory diseases, epidemiology, ect. We hope this book can demonstrate advances in treatment of stroke as well as give references to the researchers, students and other related people.
