ABSTRACT: The paper proposes an “ab initio” theoretical contribution to the understanding of dark matter and dark energy. The model has quantum basis and correlates the Einstein cosmological constant to the vacuum energy density; the cosmological parameters are expressed as a self-consistent set of data as a function of age and size of the universe, in agreement with the values of the fundamental constants of nature.
