  ABSTRACT: Sport events hosted are beneficial for host population and governments have made stronger claims about social benefits derived from such events. Using 1990-2022 panel data from multiple countries/cities, the current study aims to examine the relationship between residents’ perception of the social impact from hosting small and medium-scale sporting events and their attempt to win the bid to host such future sporting events. According to Hover et al. (2016), the social impact of sport events hosted is multi-dimensional. By using panel data modeling we come to prove that all the social impact’s dimensions measured over a year are positively correlated with the number of sport events hosted over the coming year.
