  ABSTRACT: Anincreasedcontentoflowmolecularweight (LMW)- HAwasfoundinhumangingivaduringtheinitial phase ofperiodontitis. Anumberoffunctionshavebeendescribedfor LMW-HAininflammatoryprocesses.ItisalsodemonstratedthatLMWHAinducesapoptosisinchondrocytesandtumorcells,however, effects ofLMWHA on the apoptosisofgingivalfibroblasts(GFs) remainunclear. Thepurposeofthisstudywastoinvestigatethe effectsof HAoligosaccharides(HAoligo) onthe apoptosis of GFs. GFs wereisolatedfrompalatalgingivaltissues aroundthe upperfirstpremolars of eight youth(6 -10yearsold)and eight adult(26 -35yearsold) subjects.CulturedGFsweresubjectedtotheanalyses,ELISAforcellproliferation,quantitative realtime-PCRforgeneexpressionofBcl-2,andcaspase-3assayforapoptotic potency.
