ABSTRACT: Figure-ground theory is one of the most important analytical tools in cognitive poetics. Based on the theory of figure-ground, this paper uses the classical love poems of Xu Zhimo, the representative of the Crescent School of poetry, as the Corpus, and analyzes them from three levels: vocabulary, syntax and textual emotion. The purpose of this paper is to explore the beauty of images in Xu Zhimo’s poetry. The text is based on the emotions of the text, and the emotions expressed in the poem are constructed into images of the poem through figure-ground theory in cognitive poetics. Thus, the modern poetry is interpreted.
