ABSTRACT: In Mexican literature, the subject of death has been present since the
earliest texts. The novels Vestido de Novia, by Socorro Venegas, and Umami, by Laia
Jufresa, re-address this subject, but from nostalgia’s perspective, a feeling
relatively unexplored in the narrative written by young women until now.
Overcome mourning, the protagonists manage to assimilate a series of memories
that plunge them into nostalgia, getting rid of depression. This
paper will analyze both novels, aiming to point out this singularity, which
turns them into a benchmark for future studies on the subject.
