ABSTRACT

Naruse Jinzou is a representative of Japanese women’s education. The study of the causes of Naruse’s thought on women’s education is the basis for analyzing the specific connotation of his thought on women’s education, and it is also an important content to grasp the development trend of Meiji Japanese women’s education. There were two major turning points in Naruse Jinzou’s life: one was to learn about Christianity, and the other was to study in the United States. These two turning points have created Naruse’s current thought on women’s education. Family education has cultivated Naruse’s profound moral quality and social responsibility. The idea of equality for all people in Christianity has changed Naruse’s views on women and strengthened his belief and determination to change the current situation of Japanese women’s education. Studying in the United States has changed Naruse’s metaphysical religious view and formed a relatively complete ideological system of women’s education. The analysis of contributing factors to Naruse’s thought on women’s education has enlightening significance for exploring the transformation process of Naruse’s thought on women’s education and studying the external and internal factors behind its transformation.
