An Analysis of the Female Image of “Jing” in Natsume Soseki’s Kokoro

ABSTRACT

Natsume Soseki is one of the most important writers in modern Japanese history, known as “the great national writer”. The novel Kokoro is one of Natsume Soseki’s later works. Among them, “Jing” as an important female image runs through the whole work. This paper first starts with the characteristics of “Jing” and then analyzes the relationship between “Jing” and “I”, “Mr.” and “K”, so that to analyze the reason of “Jing”, and analyze the status and living conditions of Japanese women in the era of the Meiji Period, as well as Natsume Soseki’s view on women, so as to deepen readers’ understanding of the work Kokoro.
