ABSTRACT

Chemical copolymerization of aniline with o-anthranilic acid in aqueous 1 M HCl was carried out at different molar ratios of aniline and o-anthranilic acid, and was characterized by FTIR and UVVisible spectroscopy, elemental analysis and electrical conductivity. From FTIR and UV-Visible spectroscopy, we observed that o-anthranilic acid had been introduced into the polymer chain successfully. The percent yield of o-anthanilic acid copolymer with aniline decreases as the percent of aniline increases. An increase in the % C can be observed as the amount of o-anthranilc acid in the copolymer decrease or the amounts of aniline increase. Copolymerization of aniline with o-anthranilic acid would improve the resulting polymer via increasing the molecular weight and the conductivity as well.
