Special Issue on Pig in the Middle:
Health, Environment and Rural Development in China
This collection of articles considers the
multiple dimensions of China’s search for sustainable development through the
lens of the pig, unpacking the economic, health and environmental impacts of
changing modes of pork production and consumption. Pigs, it turns out, are “in the middle” of
many of the dilemmas facing China as it attempts to transition from a
development model focused on maximizing growth, and ensuring basic livelihoods
and food security, to a cleaner, higher value and sustainable approach. In this
introduction we provide background for the articles by discussing these
intersecting sustainability challenges.
In this
special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit
original research and review articles on exploring Pig in
the Middle.
Authors
should read over the journal’s For Authors carefully before submission. Prospective
authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through
the journal’s Paper Submission System.
Please
kindly specify the “Special Issue” under your manuscript title. The
research field “Special Issue - Pig in the Middle: Health, Environment and
Rural Development in China” should be selected during your submission.
