Call For Papers

Special Issue on Cretaceous Earth Dynamics and Climate in Asia

–Short Paper Volume for the First International Symposium of the IGCP 679, Oct. 11-17, 2019, Qingdao, China

The Special Issue “Cretaceous Earth Dynamics and Climate in Asia” of Open Journal of Geology (OJG) aims to present the recent achievement of the IGCP 679 project, which is aimed to explore the processes and mechanisms of the rapid change in climate and environment under greenhouse conditions during the Cretaceous, and the evolutionary responses of the biodiversity on land of the Asian continent and in the around oceans.

In this special issue, we intend to invite IGCP 679 project members, the IGCP 679 First International Qingdao Symposium participants and authors to submit original research and review articles on exploring Cretaceous Earth Dynamics and Climate in Asia. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  •      Palaeontology and biostratigraphy of marine and non-marine fossils
  •      Radiometric dating, palaeomagnetics and chronology
  •      Biodiversity evolution on land and in the oceans
  •      Carboncycle and Cretaceous ocean anoxic events
  •      Palaeoecology and palaeoenvironment under greenhouse conditions
  •      Palaeoweathering, geochemistry and climate change

The Cretaceous was the most recent, warmest period in the Phanerozoic Era, and characterized by more elevated atmospheric CO2 levels and significantly higher global sea levels than today. The IGCP 679 project will be based on Earth system science to reveal the Cretaceous 'Greenhouse' Earth's oceanic and terrestrial climates and environmental conditions and their evolution. This will lead to an in-depth understanding of the existing characteristics of rapid climate and environmental changes and global warming. We will explore the processes and mechanisms of the rapid change in climate and environment under greenhouse conditions during the Cretaceous, and the evolutionary responses of biodiversity on land and in the oceans of the Asian continent.

Authors should read over the journal’s For Authors carefully before submission. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal’s Paper Submission System.

Please kindly specify the “Special Issue” under your manuscript title. The research field “Special Issue - Cretaceous Earth Dynamics and Climate in Asia” should be selected during your submission.

Research interest: Palaeontology and stratigraphy of Mesozoic rocks of China, including the fossil groups of radiolarian, foraminifera, ammonite, ostracod. Recently, He pays more attention to the terrestrial ecosystem, with special interests in fossil clam shrimps (“conchostracans”) of Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks in China, and with emphasis on biostratigraphy, paleoecology and evolution.
