Asthma is a chronic disease that can affect people of all ages, but it most often starts during childhood. Common symptoms include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Asthma is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. There is no cure for asthma, but the symptoms can be controlled with proper treatment.
