Profile Details

Having graduated from an oil college, he worked as a foremen in oil industry and then at the nuclear test-sites in Semipalatinsk and Novaya Zemlya. He received M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy of the Moscow State University. His Ph.D. dissertation on social ecology (1984) and postdoctoral dissertation dedicated to social and philosophical aspects of global problems (1991) were among the first research projects done in the new field of global studies. For 30 years he has been studying such topics as philosophy of globalization and global problems, scientific and technological progress, social philosophy and ecology. He participated in and was one of the organizers of the All-Russian Philosophical Congresses; participated in the XVIIIth, XIXth, XXth, XXIst, XXIInd and XXIIIrd World Philosophy Congresses. A. N. Chumakov serves as Chair of Philosophy Department in Finance University under the Government of the Russian Federation; Editor-in-Chief of “Vestnik of the Russian Philosophical Society”journal, Editor-in-Chief “Age of Globalization”journal, Leading Research Fellow at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences; editor of many scholarly volumes and textbooks. He is the author of more than 400 research works, 7 monographs and textbooks published in Russian, English, Chinese, German, French, Poland, Turkish and Czech languages.
