Biography
N. Umakantha

Nijalingappa Umakantha began his research activity in 1956 in the field of neutron physics at the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (now Bhabha Atomic Research Centre), India.


He was one of delegates from India to Second United Nations International Conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy held at Geneva in the year 1959.


He did research in the field of neutron physics at Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, U.K. From 1962 to his retirement in 1991 he was at the Department of Physics Karnatak University, Dharwad, India.


His fields of research were: interaction of radiation with matter, liquid scintillation, development of new student laboratory experiments in nuclear physics, and conceptual foundations of quantum mechanics and probability theory.
