RESEARCH INTERESTS

1. Chemical pollution of water in rivers and reservoirs. A part of this work was carried
out in Malawi. Two papers were published: one in African Journal of Aquatic
Science (South Africa) and the other in Malawi Journal of Science (Malawi). Part of
the data was presented at an International Chemistry conference in Malawi.

2. Chemical analysis of indigenous plants used as medicines for humans and livestock
diseases. A project proposal write-up is currently in progress. This work could be
done in collaboration with the biology department. This is a great opportunity for
interaction with members of the other departments.

3. Hazardous effects of continuously re-used cooking oils. A project proposal for this
work has since been sent to the European Union for funding.

4.  Synthesis of polymers for water purification.

5.  Heavy metals in Malawian Rice varieties
