ABSTRACT: This study assessed the
influence of LMX and PSM on teacher job satisfaction in Ghanaian secondary
schools. The study sampled senior high school teachers currently teaching in
the Greater Accra, Ghana. Greater Accra Region was chosen because it has the
largest and most populous senior high schools in Ghana. A questionnaire was
given to 200 teachers with the purpose of gauging their levels of public
service motivation (PSM), leader-member exchange (LMX), and work satisfaction. The study employed correlation, linear and
multiple regressions to examine the relationship between LMX and PSM and work satisfaction. The multiple regression analysis conducted revealed that LMX, PSM
Comp and PSM SS had a positive and significant effect on teacher job satisfaction. These findings show that head
teachers in public senior high schools should place a premium on
developing excellent working relationships with their subordinates while striving to retain teachers’ engagement and commitment to their schools.
