ABSTRACT: Socotra Island is one of the most biodiversity rich and distinct islands in the world and hosts one of the oldest ecosystems on Earth. Located in the Indian Ocean, the Socotra ecosystem is uniquely characterized by incredible rare species of endemic flora, fauna and marine biodiversity, a third of which are found nowhere else on the Earth. The objective of this paper is to review the current status of conservation efforts and propose recommendations for the preservation of this island’s fragile ecosystem in order to conserve its unique biodiversity and endemism, which will otherwise perish in oblivion forever.
