ABSTRACT:
Philanthropies and governments traditionally share power relations. While
governments exercise their power to rule by
regulations, philanthropies, on the other hand, perceive government involvement,
through regulation, as a way to reduce their power. In order to bridge these
two forces that don’t necessarily share similar interests, a third party is
needed. This external agency should set guiding standards for philanthropies to
follow as well as for the cooperation between the government and the philanthropists.
This paper is an attempt to understand in depth the knowledge base of this
relationship, and the standards that should be determined.
