Abstract: Since the reforming and opening-up policy, Development Zones are key strategic initiatives in China, taken to change from the planned economy to market economy, to expand the reforming and openingup policy, to promote rapid economic development and to respond to the new technological revolution around the world. This paper briefly summarizes the various stages of development zones during the past 30 years, it concludes the contributions of Development Zones to China’s economic development and urban development, and analyzes the relationships between Development Zones and the cities. Finally, the article points out that China’s Development Zones are facing Series of the risks and future trends.
