Abstract: IPv6 is the key technology of the next generation Internet. The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 is an inevitable development process. It has been a key problem in recent years that how to convert the network dominated by IPv4 to the network dominated by Ipv6. The 6to4 tunnel technique is a main transition tech- nique, which is studied and analyzed detailedly in this paper. The limitation of this technique at present is ob- served. An appraisal of 6to4 tunnel technique is showed after synthesizing all the existed schemes. It predicts that specific address format of IPv6 in 6to4 tunnel technique, which is improved and generalized, will be the unique address format of IPv6 in the future.
