Abstract: There is a tremendous amount of physics and engineering that goes into the design of a baseball. Here this paper attempt to analyze the performance and behavior of the bat through studying the physics involved in the bat-ball collision to choose the “sweet spot” along the bat. We firstly defined the “sweet spot” and then established the collision model to calculate the “sweet spot”, and identified a simple expla- nation based on torque might seem to identify the end of the bat as the sweet spot is empirically incorrect. At last we analyzed the difference of the “sweet spot” for the metal bat and the wood bat and why Major League Baseball prohibits “corking” and the metal bat.
