Abstract: Reconfigurable technology is a new technology, which means hardware configuration parameters, modules and systems can be updated to increase the efficiency and flexibility of the system effectively. Thus the reconfigurable technology is likely to be adopted to design novel encryption systems with higher flexibility and security. In this paper we designed a Reconfigurable Encryption System (RES) on Altera DE2 Development and Education Board. The software and hardware of the system are able to be reconfigured from a remote server or local administrator and accord to needs of users or security policy. The validation and performance analysis are demonstrated by the AES and DES encryption. A large number of tests show that the RES system works effectively.
