Abstract: By introducing the advantages and disadvantages of the rationalism and empiricism in natural language processing, this paper proposes several basic ideas of how to combine the rationalist approach and empiricist approach according to the current state of development in machine translation, and discusses the change of the rationalism and empiricism in word sense disambiguation, finally summarizes the developmental tendency of machine translation.
