Abstract: Key management is the prerequisite and foundation for providing secure and reliable communication in mobile ad hoc networks. And the mobile ad hoc networks meet many challenges due to their intrinsic properties on limited resources and dynamic network topology and so on. The intrinsic properties of mobile ad hoc network were introduced, and the attacks to the properties of networks were described. More specifically, typical key management schemes were discussed and compared. In the end, the open research issues and future works in the key management schemes were also pointed out.
