Abstract: This paper proposes a lightweight and efficient geocasting (LEG) protocol for location-free wireless sensor networks (LF-WSNs), in that each sensor node only possesses the geographical information, such as direction and distance. In LEG, each sensor node depends on the direction and distance of itself and the region of interest (ROI) to determine whether it should forward the received packet, as it receives a geocast packet. A sensor node must forward the packet only if its direction and the direction of ROI are identical. As preventing from packet flooding, LEG significantly diminish energy consumption of sensor nodes. Simulation results illustrate that compared to the flooding scheme LEG significantly reduces the number of packets generated during although decreasing the packet delivery ratio.
