Abstract: Wavelet and PDE(Partial Differential Equation)-based image denoising algorithms are two popular methods in image processing. This paper proposes a coupled image denoising method based on image decomposition. The basic idea presented in this paper is first to decompose the image into structure and texture parts, and then choose two proper denoising methods according to their different characteristics, one for denoising the structure parts-PM methods and the other for the texture parts-Thweiner methods. Both methods are chosen so that they lead to better denoising over one type of image-content. Finally the two parts are fused into a single image. Experiment results show that the new method performs well.
