Abstract: It is widely recognized that today’s Internet is facing serious problems such as scalability, mobility and security, which are mainly caused by the overloading of IP address semantics. To solve these problems, many ideas are proposed to replace the IP namespace with a locator namespace and an identifier namespace, such as the Locator/Identifier separation-and-mapping (LISM) model used in Universal Network. Click is a new software platform for building configurable and modular routers, whose building blocks are packet processing modules called elements. The ability to combine elements into a new arrangement makes router system more flexible to configure and easier to implement new applications. This paper presents a new method to design and implement LISM in the forwarding plane of Access Switching Router (ASR) within three kinds of networks (e.g. IPv4 network, IPv6 network, IPv6 host over IPv4 network) through the use of Click. Besides, we evaluate the forwarding latency caused by the LISM module, and the result shows the correctness and feasibility of our new scheme.
