Abstract: This paper introduces a kind of Bridge Unit (BU) for network on chip. For its function of bridge between some nodes with low traffic and one switch with high traffic, BU can significantly reduce the number of switches and improve the utilization of high performance link used in NOC according to OPNET simulation results. On the other hand, the programmable character of BU allow implementation of two-way data transmission between two nodes freely without obviously increasing the complexity of topology with the increment of number of nodes attached to BU. The synthesis of circuit also shows that BU can meet communication need with high traffic.
