Abstract: Although sound wave has been widely applied to transmission for underwater sensor networks, it does not perform well in underwater environment due to the lager propagation delay and the limited bandwidth. In addition, collision is also a notorious problem by acoustic communication. Therefore, this paper proposes a CSMA-based MAC protocol not only to avoid collision and to increase the channel utilization but also without time synchronization. The simulation result shows that the proposed protocol has out performance than others in throughput.
