Abstract: Data Warehouse is a subject-oriented, integrated, nonvolatile, time-variant dataset, which is used to support management and decision of enterprises and organizations. It is the data source of on-line analysis processing, and the basis of data mining and business intelligence. A typical data ware- house application system is a set of system including function of reports development and mul- ti-dimensional analysis, based on data warehouse. Using a multi-dimensional query and analysis system in telecommunication industry as an example, the paper discussed the general approach to design and establish a data warehouse application system based on relational database and multi-dimensional data- base, and analyzed the difference of function and performance between relational database and mul- ti-dimensional database.
