Abstract: FIR digital filter has been widely used, so scholars and engineers have been paying more at- tention to its optimal design. Hybrid genetic algorithm will be applied to optimize the design of FIR fil- ters. FIR filter which is designed with hybrid genetic algorithm will have weight least mean square. Fit- ness function is optimized to the reciprocal of the weighted mean square error which is based on the ex- tent of importance of each band and uses different weighting coefficients to different frequency bands. The program is simulated in MATLAB. To given technology parameters, some examples of applying hybrid genetic algorithm have been done, and get better design effect. Results show that the FIR filter which designed with hybrid genetic algorithm has good spectral characteristics. The experimental results also show that the new algorithm not only improves the global optimization performance, but also quickens the convergence speed and obtains robust results with good quality, which indicates this new algorithm is a promising approach for solving optimization problems.
