Abstract: The more computationally demanding block in the digital front end of a software defined radio (SDR) receiver is the channel filter which operates at a rather high sampling rate. In SDR receivers, the channel filters are always designed as FIR filter which is expected to be low complexity and reconfigurable. A new filter architecture based on interpolation, decimation and frequency masking techniques is proposed in this paper. This architecture is low complexity and reconfigurable in both architecture and filter level. The proposed architecture is capable of extracting channels with different bandwidths corresponding to the channel spacing of different time-varying channels. Design examples show that proposed architecture offers much complexity reduction over conventional Per-Channel approach, reduces the complexity observably and is favorable reconfigurable.
