Abstract: There are a growing number of optical components used in communication networks. Accurate measurement of insert loss and return loss can reduce the errors of communication system and improve the quality of communication. How to reduce the measurement errors of return loss, improve accuracy of optical return loss instrument, as a subject worthy of study. This paper analyzes the error sources of the optical insert loss and return loss instrument, and proposed measures to reduce the errors, some of the factors that easy to introduce errors were proved experimentally.
