Abstract: Information systems are playing an increasingly important role in modern society. At the same time, many important applications require higher reliability of information systems, for which Database backup technology can make. The inner database backup scheme has been implemented in some important areas. However, this just solves part of the data security, and local threats for information systems still exist, such as: computer stolen, fire accidents and other unexpected damage of local data. Whether an information system has any implementation for data backup, data backup of Remote Disaster Recovery is important and essential. Therefore, it is so significant an issue to achieve remote database backup safely, fast and simply by using the existing information systems hardware and software resources. In this paper, we have done lots of necessary basic work for the issue. Firstly, we have studied the basic theories and related technologies of remote database backup. Secondly, we have analyzed the requirement of real information system. Thirdly, with the hardware and software conditions of real information system, we have designed two schemes for remote oracle database backup: DRBD real-time mirror scheme and FTP regular transfer scheme, and the two have been fully realized in real information system. Finally, based on the analysis of applied results of the two schemes, considering the practical requirement of information systems, we have selected a dual scheme which integrates the advantages of the two schemes for the real information system.
