Abstract: Shot boundary detection is an important step in the process of content-based video retrieving. Extracting features both from pixel domain and compressed domain, the paper uses the features, which mainly include brightness variance, edge variance ratio, block histogram, DC coefficient and motion vector, to train support vector machine and so as to detect the change of shots. The algorithm can possess good robustness on the motion of camera and the admittance of big objects.
