Abstract: To study the crystalline properties of cellulose diacetate, a grafting copolymer (CDA-g-PLA) was prepared via grafting L-lactide onto cellulose diacetate backbone using Sn(Oct)2 as catalyst. The copolymer obtained was characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, XRD and DSC. Because the differences of graft ratios, the copolymer displayed different melt crystalline behavior influenced by degree of polymerization. The results showed that the product was grafted copolymer of cellulose diacetate and poly(lactic acid); The XRD and DSC results indicated when the graft ratio smaller than 264%, the PLA side-chains of the graft copolymers does not have obvious crystalline behavior; but the PLA side-chains became crystallizable when the graft ratio reached to 281% or above, and the higher graft ratio, the more crystallization formed.
