Abstract: The pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) and its classification and a part of the application of PSA in the printed electronics are introduced. The method to solve the difficulty of making thin PSA film in printed electronics, through ink-jet printing, is presented. The influence of emulsion polyacrylate PSA on ink properties is studied and the preferable amount is about 25%. Different kinds of surfactants are used and it is found that sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate (SDBS) can effectively bring down the surface tension to the range of the ink-jet ink without changing the viscosity and other properties of the ink too much. The influence of the SDBS content on ink properties is studied and the usage amount of SDBS is fixed on 0.4%. The optimal PSA ink-jet ink formulation is obtained and the ink is prepared. The ink is printed by the Epson R-230 ink-jet printer on different substrates, such as coated paper, digital photo paper and PET film. A series of PSA films with certain initial tacks are obtained and the PSA films on the digital photo paper are the best.
