Abstract: A new landscape assessment method LFA (Landscape Function Analysis) was used to study the slope vegetation type’s impact on forest landscape function and soil properties in Loess Plateau, got the following conclusions: different vegetation type’s impact on soil properties is distinctly different, the soil properties (stability, infiltration, nutrients) of natural secondary forest are the best, secondly, Chinese Pine plantation and Locust plantation, grassland is the worst. LFA method can assess vegetation’s impact on soil properties efficiently, the method applies to the monitoring and evaluation of the soil performance in loess region, as a result, we hope these methods can be used in the evaluation of the degree of soil desertification, monitoring of the process of desertification and evaluation of extent of restored land properties. LFA method does not apply to assess the landscape function of different vegetation.
