Abstract: The ecological footprint of Huainan city is explored by way of ecological footprint model on thebase of the development of Huainan city. The statistics show that the ecological footprint per capita ofHuainan city is 4.1839hm2 per person; the actual bearing capacity of ecological footprint per capita is0.2303hm2 per person; the deficit of the ecological footprint per capita of Huainan city is high up to3.9536hm2 per person. This shows that the ecological footprint of Huainan city is far surpassed what it cansustain, and its economy is unsustainable. Therefore, many measures such as adjusting social economystructure as soon as possible, strictly control population growth, protecting cultivable land effectively,improving the efficiency of energy and reducing energy cost and so on to eliminate the ecological deficit andpromote sustainable development of Huainan city.
