Abstract: The health risk assessment of main pollutants for the Wuhu reach of the Yangtze River is conducted based on the water environment health risk analysis model and the monitoring data during 2001-2005. The result shows that the maximal annual health risk for individual due to carcinogens from drinking water comes from Cr6+ over the years, but the health risk of As, Cd and Cr6+ to the individual per year are all lower than the maximum acceptable risk level recommended by International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP); the maximal annual health risk for individual person due to non-carcinogens from drinking water comes from Pb, and followed by NH3-N, the health risk of non-carcinogens (except Pb) to the individual per year is lower than 1.0×10-10, and they are also lower than the maximum acceptable risk level recommended by ICRP. The comparison among the health risk of main pollutants shows that the risk level for human body caused by chemical carcinogens is much greater than non-carcinogens, so chemical carcinogens must be paid much attention in the risk decision-making management.
