Abstract: |
This research investigated the runoff characteristics and factors affecting the runoff volume and concentrations during four rainfall runoff events in the agricultural area, Korea. Two field experiments were carried out during the irrigation season from May to June and two field experiments were conducted during the non-irrigation season from January to March. To identify the difference with both field experiments, selforganizing map (SOM), as a kind of neural network model, was used in this research. The results revealed that runoff characteristics between irrigation and non-irrigation season was clearly distinguished in the SOM matrix. In case of CODMn and CODCr, they were intensively released to water-body during irrigation season. On the other hand, during the irrigation season, TN NO3, and NH4 concentration was lower than non-irrigation season because of dilution effect. Based on the results, the characteristics and behaviors of nonpoint source pollutants during rainfall events in the agricultural area depend on the human activity including irrigation.
