Abstract: Aluminum foams have a unique combination of properties, such as good impact energy absorption capacity, unusual acoustic properties, low thermal conductivity, etc. In this paper, acoustic detection method was used to investigate the evolution of aluminum foam damage during the tensile test process. The eight channels microphone array system was used to test, calculate and analyze acoustic signal based on LabVIEW. The algorithm of wavelet packet was applied to analyze the acoustic signal sampled by the microphone array. Through analysis of the stress-strain curve during the deformation of the aluminum foams, the damage scalar model can be used to depict the damage process. By comparing the acoustic intensity of each microphone sensor, the crack position of the tensile foams can be fixed.
