Abstract: Under the background of improving the safety of driving on freeway under fog weather, a solution based on vehicular Ad Hoc network (VANET) to driving on freeway under fog weather is proposed. A brief introduction of VANET is given firstly and the main purpose of this solution is proposed. Then, a multi-dimensional and multi-layer description model of vehicle state information is discussed and the demands of positioning accuracy and refresh frequency are brought forward in this scenario. And the positioning technology based on GPS and vehicle state is described. Finally, the PHY and MAC layer technologies are discussed, and a transmission scheme of safety messages is designed which will guarantee the reliable and low-latency transmission of the safety messages. Consequently, the drivers who are affected by the fog weather can drive safely on freeway.
