Abstract: A novel planar inverted-F antenna with excellent radiation characteristics for wireless local area network operation in the 2.4GHz band is presented. The antenna has a very compact structure with the dimensions and consists of a half- wavelength L-shaped patch, all coplanar with the reference ground. The antenna is easily fed by using a 50ohmic coaxial cable, allowing it to have much flexibility in the placement of a defined location. The simulated results show that good input matching from 2.4GHz to 2.49GHz band can be achieved by tuning the main sizes and the position of the feed point. Good omnidirectional radiation patterns are also observed. Details of a design prototype are described and discussed. The software of Ansoft HFSS11 and CST Microwave Studio are used to simulate and optimize the antenna. 2 3 0 ? 8 m m 2
