Abstract: We simulate and analyze the performance of 16-QAM OFDM modulation system in the wireless 13-taps multipath channel. The simulations are compared with the flat Rayleigh fading channel and AWGN channel in view of different channel characteristics with different cyclic prefix length. We discover that when the cyclic prefix length is less than RMS delay spread of the multipath channel without equalizer, the capability of resisting delay spread is much weaker. The bit error rate will never reach below 10-3, even if the signal to noise ratio is very large. Whenever we add the equalizer in the OFDM receiver, there is 17.3 dB gain in reference to the flat-fading channel. If we increase the cyclic prefix length to overcome the channel delay spread effect, there will be more 10dB gain of signal to noise ratio we can have in the same 13-taps multipath channel.
