Abstract: Multibranch diversity with switch-and-examine combining (SEC) based on a different switch statistic rather than the tradition signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) of diversity branches is proposed and analyzed. For the fading factor a and the received low-passed signal r of each branch, the switch statistic considered in the context is the magnitude |ar|. For performance analysis and comparisons, the BPSK signaling on Rayleigh fading channels with independent-and-identical distributions (i.i.d.) is considered, where the bit error rate (BER) is derived for the multibranch SEC (MSEC). For performance optimization, the optimal switch threshold is used for the MSEC. Numerical results from analysis and simulations are illustrated for performance examination.
