Abstract: The major disadvantage of OFDM systems is their peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). The use of precoding transform kernels has verified the effectiveness of the reduction of PAPR. The approach reduces the correlation among the original Quadrature-Amplitude-Modulation (QAM) constellation in multiple OFDM symbols through unitary transformation. This investigation purposes an adjustable precoding kernel that has more reduction in PAPR than that reduces the PAPR more than that can be achieved using a precoding kernel. This work also discusses the out-of-band (OOB) emission and the bit-error-rate (BER) obtained using an adjustable precoding kernel in an OFDM system. Simulation results indicate that adjustable precoding kernel has emits less OOB emission and more BER than the precoding kernel. The procedure changing the shape of the first row in the adjustable precoding kernel provides a trade-off among PAPR reduction, OOB emission, and BER performance in an OFDM system. Accordingly, the PAPR and the emission of OOB can be reduced using this adjustable precoding kernel when the channel condition is stable.
