ABSTRACT

The paper is on impact of information technology in Nigerian university libraries. The population of the study comprised of all federal university libraries in South-South Nigeria. Data for the study was gathered through structured questionnaire from the respondents. Analysis of the data was done using frequency count and simple percentage. Findings show that ICTs are mostly used for acquisition and cataloguing processes and circulation routines, ICTs facilities are used in the library because they are easier, and faster and save the time of librarians. The study also revealed that librarians performance in using ICTs skills is very low. The following rec-ommendations were also made; there should be adequate provision for training and retraining in ICT skills for librarians as this will change their orientation toward the use of information technologies; funds should be provided by the financier of the libraries for the procurement of ICTs facil-ities. Also good internet services should be provided without interruption as this will boost the effectiveness and efficiency of librarians in meeting the information needs of their clients in this 21st century.
