ABSTRACT

The present study deals with investigation relating to the influence of wear parameters like sliding speed, applied load and sliding distance on the dry sliding wear of aluminium metal matrix composites. The design of experiment approach was employed to acquire data in controlled way using Taguchi method. A Pin-on-disc apparatus was used to conduct the dry sliding wear test. An orthogonal array, signal-to-noise ratio and analysis of variance were employed to investigate the wear behavior of aluminium and it’s composite. The mathematical model was obtained to determine the wear rate of the aluminium and it’s composite. The confirmation tests were conducted to verify the experimental results. The incorporation of Be3Al2(SiO3)6 as reinforcement material in aluminium matrix material improves the tribological characteristics.
